On Tuesday 8th March, Free@Last invited some incredible women from all walks of life to celebrate International Women’s Day. The event was attended by several inspiring female role models, covering a range of professions from plumbing to writing to professional football.
Celebrating the Achievements of Women
The evening provided an opportunity for girls and young women to hear first-hand about the empowerment, aspiration, and equality that can be achieved through any chosen career path. This was a free event and open to all ages, so many girls came along to join us in celebrating the amazing women who inspire us every day!
Monica Barbosa and Ru Katakia, respectively, represented RSS Infrastructure and Auctus Management Group at the event. Monica discussed business development, while Ru outlined the responsibilities of an executive assistant while both also focused on encouraging and supporting the attendees.
Several individuals from various other organisations joined them, including a female plumber, Suited for Success (who support young people through Careers Advice & Guidance and provides interview clothing), a young woman who had just had her book published, and a PE teacher!
One of the highlights of the evening was hearing a young woman speak about her experiences and challenges en route to her career—she plays international football for Trinidad & Tobago!
Future Aspirations and Career Opportunities
The young girls questioned us about our personal experiences, sought advice and guidance, discussed equal pay, obstacles, and much more as they moved through different groups. Many of the young people had clear aspirations and desires for their futures, and some were unaware of the types of roles that were accessible to them. The ability to guide and inform all the attendees was very empowering.
Ru Katakia commented, “It was a fantastic evening and so inspiring to see the next generation of young women already planning their futures and seeking guidance on how to achieve their dream careers. At Auctus, we are committed to supporting diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and this event was a great way to showcase the amazing things that can be achieved when women work together.”
Monica Barbosa added, “The Free@last events are always so inspiring, and it was great to see so many young girls engage with the various career options on offer. The team at RSS Infrastructure is passionate about supporting women in the workplace, and it was great to be able to share our experiences with the next generation.
Empowering Girls and Women
We would like to say a big thank you to John Street, Abby, and Jonny, who invited Monica and Ru along to the event. It was very inspirational, and they are determined to continue the relationship with Free@Last and empower people from different backgrounds to fulfil their ambitions.
