A small act of kindness can make a big difference for children entering foster care. At Auctus Management Group and RSS Infrastructure, we recently had the privilege of collaborating with Comfort Cases UK and Birmingham Children’s Trust to bring a little comfort to children during a challenging time. Together, we packed over 100 Comfort Cases, ensuring that each child entering care receives a bag filled with essentials and a touch of warmth.
The Heart Behind the Project
Sarah Scott, Head of HR at Auctus Management Group, shares a deeply personal connection to this project. As a parent of adopted children, Sarah understands the challenges faced by children entering foster care. “Some of you know that my children are adopted. When I discovered Comfort Cases, it struck a chord. Our daughter, only four then, remembered wearing the same clothes until her foster family could provide more. She was fortunate to keep some cuddly toys, but not all children have that opportunity,” Sarah shares.
Moved by these stories, our Auctus Management Group and RSS Infrastructure team were inspired to take action. Partnering with Comfort Cases UK and Birmingham Children’s Trust, we aimed to provide children with something to call their own—a backpack filled with items like pyjamas, cuddly toys, toiletries, and books. These small comforts help to preserve the dignity of children during a time of significant transition.
A Community Effort to Make a Difference
The packing event was a true testament to the power of teamwork. We were delighted to welcome Sarah Jacoby and Sammi Myers from Comfort Cases UK and Alex Hillman and Dawn Crookes from Birmingham Children’s Trust to help us with the packing efforts. Together, we filled over 100 backpacks, now on their way to local children in foster care.
Reflecting on the event, Sarah Scott said, “Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible! From our wonderful volunteers to the Comfort Cases UK team, it was a fantastic day of coming together for a great cause. We’re already planning our next fundraising and packing event for Comfort Cases!”
We also thank our bag packers, Jennifer Byrne, Leanda Waring, Audrey Harpur and Mike McLean. Their dedication ensured that each Comfort Case was packed with care and compassion.
About Comfort Cases UK
Comfort Cases UK aims to bring dignity and hope to Looked-After Children (LAC) as they move through the care system. Founded over ten years ago by Rob Scheer, a former foster child, the charity believes that no child should carry their belongings in a bin bag. Each Comfort Case shows a child they are valued, offering a small but impactful sense of dignity during a challenging time.
How You Can Help
