If you work for Balfour Beatty Vinci on the HS2 construction project, you’ll need to go to the HS2 Inductions in Aston, Birmingham, put on by Auctus Management Group (AMG). The company delivers inductions for Balfour Beatty Vinci staff and subcontractors. It provides various services, including drug and alcohol testing, right-to-work checks, and biometrics for site access.
Balfour Beatty Vinci is constructing the HS2 line, which goes from Long Itchington to Stafford and includes the Birmingham spur from Birmingham Interchange to Birmingham Curzon Street.
Drug & Alcohol Testing
On arrival at the HS2 induction centre, attendees undergo drug and alcohol testing as part of the induction. The test examines the presence of illegal and prescription drugs that could impair an individual’s ability to work safely. The administrators use fingerprint drug testing technology, which is quick, accurate, and confidential. Any non-negative results are then subject to a urine test which is sent to an approved laboratory for testing. Attendees also undergo a breathalyser test.
Right To Work Checks
All attendees must provide proof of their right to work in the UK before they can attend an induction. The client usually does these checks, but AMG can carry out these checks as part of the induction process if required.
Biometrics for Site Access
MSite controls who can enter the site, and AMG administrators will add attendees to the system during the induction. On completion of the induction, each person will test to see if they have been added successfully using an on-site biometric system inside the induction theatre. The MSite system monitors fatigue and can potentially lock out users if they exceed the limits set for door-to-door travel.
Hs2 Project Induction
Presenters give each group a complete introduction to the project, covering many different aspects. The sections cover everything from the case for HS2 and the benefits of freeing up capacity on the existing network for freight to dealing with protestors, invasive species and general site rules.
Attendees will receive a site-specific briefing when they arrive at the sub-lot they have been assigned to work at. Each worksite will have site rules agreed with the local community. These can include agreements over access routes and operational times.
The HS2 induction centre is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It runs two sessions per day, with a capacity of 60 people per session.
