Air Pollution is a long-standing issue for everyone living and working in Birmingham. In response, Birmingham City Council has set up a Clean Air Zone (CAZ) covering the city centre. We want to make all our workforce entering Birmingham City Centre (especially those working on the Midland Metro Alliance projects) aware that the Clean Air Zone will start on 1st June 2021.
Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone will cover all roads within the A4540 Middleway Ring Road. The zone operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The charges will be applied daily.
John McDonough, Fleet Coordinator, has confirmed that all our company issued vehicles are exempt from the charge. Still, you should check your own car, as Birmingham City Council will charge high polluting vehicles entering the CAZ at £8 per day.
You may be eligible for a temporary exemption permit. In order to be considered for exemption, you must live, work or operate a business from within the Clean Air Zone.
