Our client is a team of planning, design and construction specialists building a number of new tram extensions across the West Midlands. Formed in 2016 to transform the West Midlands by delivering the best integrated transport system for the future. We work hard to be a best practice organisation, delivering stakeholder-focused services as it plans and delivers five Metro extensions across the region for the West Midlands Combined Authority.

What will I be doing?

As Head of Track Delivery, you will project manage and co-ordinate the simultaneous safe delivery of the track discipline projects on time, to cost and to the quality objectives required.

The role includes the coordination and facilitation of all processes in such a manner that there is minimal impact and disruption on existing operations throughout the project lifecycle. You will be responsible for resource planning within the programme and ensuring the correct level of resource is available to ensure the meeting the key milestone, including forecast and monitor costs, identifying and highlighting any deviation from the budget & plan in a timely manner.

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for:

  • Delivery of the project(s) safely to time, cost and quality, in accordance with regulations, H&S regulations, and other specific legislation including construction design management (CDM) Regulations.
  • Accountable for the overall leadership and management of the Track Delivery team ensuring that staff are managed effectively to deliver construction projects and a team of competent construction managers, supervisors and engineers are in place to deliver the works.
  • Overseeing and applying the principles of sound Project Management taking overall accountability for Cost, Quality and Timeliness in collaboration with the Project leads, Construction Managers and Technical Engineers.
  • Ensuring that the track-disciplinary work is integrated between disciplines and also ensure that the work is integrated with third parties and the wider programme.
  • Producing construction estimates for the projects, managing a cost-effective delivery in line with the construction estimate, liaising with the commercial team to help provide accurate forecasting and managing change control process for each project. This will involve the procurement of labour, plant and materials in line with the target estimate and capturing any variation to the estimate to ensure, where necessary that change requests are made.
  • Lead, motivate and manage track delivery teams to guarantee technical compliance and quality of delivered track renewal and enhancement works.
  • For staff working on the projects ensure that their training, development and support requirements are fulfilled.

What hours will I be expected to work?

Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week.

What experience would we like you to have?

Our client is looking for a dynamic individual who can bring the following:

  • Safety Management training
  • Good knowledge and understanding of track standards, processes and procedures
  • Experience with S&C, plain line track renewals / refurbishments / track maintenance works etc SMSTS / CSCS/ PTS Desirable
  • Relevant track related tickets ie Tamping, Stressing, hand back, etc
  • An HND or be Degree educated in a related subject (Civils, Construction)
